History of the Finnish language
The Finnish language is a member of the Finno-Ugric group of the Uralic language family. People from Finland speak the Finnish language. In 1835, Kalevala, an epic poem based on Finnish folklore was published. This aroused a national feeling toward the Finnish language for the Finns. Eventually, the Finnish language achieved its official status in 1863.
Both Finnish and Swedish languages acquired the national states and became the national languages of Finland.
